Diabetes Education Program

The Diabetes Education Program at WHIWH CHC provides culturally-adapted screening, health education, counselling, support. and medical services for women from our priority populations with diabetes, pre-diabetes, or gestational diabetes.

Our services are confidential and FREE for all clients.We try to accommodate requests for TTC tokens, childcare and interpretation services based on client need.

The Diabetes Team can teach you how to:

  • Learn more about diabetes
  • Plan balanced meals
  • Test blood sugar levels and attain control
  • Understand diabetes medication
  • Administer insulin
  • Choose appropriate exercises
  • Prevent or delay diabetes complications
  • Read and understand the nutrient content of food labels
  • Manage stress
  • Take care of your feet

We also offer:

  • Individual counselling
  • Diabetes discussion & support groups
  • Specialized workshops on topics such as blood pressure and glucose monitors
  • Physical activity groups

Diabetes group classes and individual sessions are led by:

  • Diabetes Nurse Educator and Registered Dietitian
  • We also have guest speakers: Registered Chiropodist / Foot Specialist, Therapists and Nurse Practitioner/ Nurse
