MIDWIFERY SERVICES
Midwifery Services
Eligible Women’s Health in Women’s Hands patients can access prenatal care with a team of Registered Midwives. Registered Midwives are government-funded healthcare providers delivering complete prenatal, antepartum, and postnatal care to diverse communities. Midwifery care is FREE to all residents of Ontario, regardless of OHIP status.
With your team of midwives, you will:
- receive routine prenatal care throughout your pregnancy. You will be seen by your
midwife monthly until 28 weeks, every other week until 36 weeks, and weekly until your baby is born. Routine prenatal care includes: blood work, urine tests, ultrasounds, genetic screening, blood pressure checks, fetal heart rate checks, and anything else - required to ensure that you and your baby are safe and supported;
- be supported to make informed choices about your pregnancy, birth, and postpartum;
- have a choice of birthplace: at Michael Garron Hospital, at the Toronto Birth Centre,
or at home; - be cared for during labour and birth. Midwives are with you during active labour
- and will deliver your baby;
- receive home visits (within catchment area) for the first week postpartum, and clinic
appointments up to 6-8 weeks postpartum, for you and baby; - be referred to a physician if complications arise that are outside of midwifery
scope of care.
